Noyers sur Serein (Yonne), label "most beautiful village in France"
Take it from me, here it is pronounced "Noyères".
Located at the crossroads of the old roads linking the city of Montbard to the city of Auxerre and the city of Avallon to the one of Tonnerre, the medieval town of Noyers-sur-Serein has retained its medieval aspect.
Once dominated by the castle of the powerful local lords called Miles de Noyers, the town is like a time machine.
It has been the setting for several films. It is also rumoured that the Disney studios used the village as inspiration for the sets of "Beauty and the Beast".
The city also hosted Duran Duran, a very popular English pop group in the 1980s, for the filming of their video clip New Moon on Monday.
Charles-Louis Pothier also lived in Noyers and in 1926 he wrote the lyrics of a song which became a real anthem for all french mothers: "Les roses blanches" sung by Berthe Silva.
It is definitely an inspiring village...
It is worth taking the time to discover this ancient trading and wine-producing village, which was prosperous in the Middle Ages, and its ramparts, which stretch their defensive towers along the river.
